Those who carry the deepest scars of Prosperity's scandalous, sorrowful legacy are Lloyd Chang and Mae Bennally. The elderly friends share a terrible secret about the town's past and their families' dealings with its Prohibition-Era crime boss, Mad Molly Petrova.

While Lloyd hopes the secret never comes to light, Mae prays that it does and believes the man to reveal it is recently arrived tourist Peter Jacoby, who possesses a striking resemblance to her deceased beloved and a powerful psychic ability he has kept hidden so long that he has forgotten it exists.
