Story of the Ku Klux Klan

Story of the Ku Klux Klan - Winfield Jones

Story of the Ku Klux Klan

The author of the story of the Ku Klux Klan is one of the ablest and most experienced of the Washington journalists. He conducted an extensive investigation of the Klan in the headquarters at Atlanta, Georgia, in Washington, and elsewhere throughout the country, and made a thorough probe of its entire organization. His story is eminently fair, and describes only facts concerning the Ku Klux Klan, past and present. The old Ku Klux Klan after the Civil War played a prominent part in Reconstruction days, one of the most important periods in the history of the United States. These times are described from an historical standpoint, and make an interesting story of the efforts made in the South to recover political liberties that had been lost by the collapse of the Confederacy. Every important fact concerning the present Klan is described in this book. The story is not in any sense an "expose" of the Ku Klux Klan, nor is it a defense, but an accurate description of this national organization, which is reported to be increasing its membership at the rate of more than 1,000 a day. Colonel Jones is not a member of the Ku Klux Klan and was not born in the South, so that he made his investigation without any prejudice one way or the other, and solely from the viewpoint of the trained and impartial writer, bent on getting all the facts concerning the Klan, and writing the story in an accurate and interesting manner.
