- Cactus can be found on a Sandy Hook nature walk. You may also spot horseshoe crabs and seals.

- The restaurant Soul Kitchen, in Red Bank, has no prices on the menu but accepts donations. It was opened by New Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi, who designed it for people who can't normally afford to eat out.

- Oceanport is a river town, and although throughout the 1700s, seagoing shipping was vital because the town had access to the ocean via the river it's on.

- Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park is named for the first seven U.S. presidents who vacationed there. The park comprises 38 acres and offers an ocean beach, swimming, fishing, boating, volleyball plus a boardwalk.

- After Hurricane Sandy, Asbury Park was one of the few communities on the Jersey Shore to reopen successfully for the 2013 summer season.

- On July 31, 1869, Reverend W. B. Osborn, Reverend Stokes, and other Methodist ministers camped at a shaded, well-drained spot, on New Jersey's seashore. They decided to establish a permanent Christian camp meeting community there called "Ocean Grove."

- In 1943, the New York Yankees held their spring training in Asbury Park instead of Florida.
