"The Great Game" was a term used for the strategic rivalry and conflict between the British Empire and the Russian Empire for supremacy in Central Asia. The Term "The Great Game" was introduced into mainstream consciousness by British novelist Rudyard Kipling in his novel 'Kim'.

Afghanistan continues to be the most important focus of British, European and American foreign policy, and will do so for a long time to come no doubt. The Great Game: Afghanistan features an extraordinary sequence of short plays, written by some of Britain's leading contemporary playwrights, which attempt to broaden our understanding of the explosive history of western involvement in Afghanistan.
