The old words were right. The Cataclysm came and took three-billion souls as it devoured the eastern Kingdom of Dremica. If not for the Guardians, all of Lorial would have fallen to the wrath of the Void. Now the Fire in Heaven serves as an eternal reminder of those three days of death and destruction.
Four hundred years later, the world has only begun to heal. Yet evil stirs once more. In the western land of Rethial, tyranny has taken root in the royal courts and the Guardians have gone into exile. The schisms of magic twist and pull within the Flux, ever-tainted by that promising melody, still singing in the ears of one who will either destroy the world or save it. Now, the fate of all creation rests in the hands of those who would take up the mantle of the ancient days and are willing to stand as the last defense against the returning evil.
