Rebecca

Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again . . .

Working as a lady's companion, the orphaned heroine of Rebecca learns her place. Life begins to look very bleak until, on a trip to the South of France, she meets Maxim de Winter, a handsome widower whose sudden proposal of marriage takes her by surprise. Whisked from glamorous Monte Carlo to his brooding estate, Manderley, on the Cornish Coast, the new Mrs de Winter finds Max a changed man. And the memory of his dead wife Rebecca is forever kept alive by the forbidding Mrs Danvers . . .

One of my favourite books. Simply stunning. I didn't expect it to be this good, but the ending left me starring at the wall, contemplating what I've just read. I heart about "Rebecca" from YouTube, as everyone said it inspired Taylor Swift to write the song "Tolerate it" from her album "Evermore". I have to admit I was reluctant at first, not knowing whether it would be worth reading or not, as I'm not a die-hard swiftie, but it turned out to be perfect for me. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in the pages of this book and I am glad to say I have never felt so understood by a writter before. Reading "Rebecca" was a magical experience. The effort Daphne du Maurier put in the the narrative thread and the attention for the little details is crazy. All of my friends know about this book and it's sure to say I won't stop recommending it soon.
