In many field such as food, petrochemical, textile, medical, automotive, beverage industries, oil and oil free lubricated compressors are used. Piston rings in compressor play important role during compression of gases. in case of the lubricated air compressors, performance of piston ring is observed as unsatisfactory life, measured of up to few hundred of hours. Also contamination is major issue due to wear debris, hence to overcome this, To counter the contaminations problem, instead of metal alloys, self lubricating polymer composite piston ring material considered in current study. Therefore, in this research the focus is on the selection of material for oil-free piston rings.
