Neighborhood 1945-1991 blends storytelling and real history to recount the fictionalized biographies of real-life people who lived in the author's hometown neighborhood. It is "Life" in twenty-one scenes from "back when" the days were "old" but not necessarily "good" These mini-biographies depict child abuse; incest; a "crazy lady" who wasn't crazy at all, just perhaps lonely; a lady who was "crazy" and disappeared; several happy, intact families; a handicapped child who taught us all how to live; a sweet, gentle young man whose love of the ballet ultimately killed him; and myriad others all included here because despite the claim of a well-to-do neighbor south of our area who once declared, "To us, those who live in your area are all 'pretty insignificant'," well, everyone matters, and everyone is important. Aren't they?
