When fifteen-year-old Harvey Cheyne Jr, the spoiled son of a railway tycoon, is swept off his steamship by a wave and rescued by fisherman he learns some hard lessons about life and what it means to be a man.

After his demands to return to port are ignored and his nose bloodied by the captain, Harvey is taken on as a cabin boy until the We're Here finishes her run. Can the boy unused to manual labor learn the ropes at sea?
