Ataques de Hambre

Ataques de Hambre - Eric Herman

Ataques de Hambre

I wanted a book I could read easily with my elementary-aged, Spanish beginner students and this collection of classic fairy and fractured fairy tales is the result. 15 total stories/chapters. 102 pages. 200 new words, 250 cognates in the whole book. Many fewer new words per story, each of which can be read on its own and following the 3-step process outlined below will ensure an easy and enjoyable classroom experience. Sample chapter here (scroll down): http: //acquisitionclassroom.weebly.com/ataques-de-hambre.html There are 5 main fairy tales: -Three Billy Goats Gruff -Goldilocks -Little Red Riding Hood -The Three Little Pigs -Jack and the Beanstalk There are 3 versions of each classic fairy tale: 1) The popularly known story, 2) The story retold from a character's point of view and either arguing for his/her innocence or making a confession, 3) The story of what happened next, after the events of the popularly known story. The original stories are so well known that they serve as the perfect platform into a new language. In addition, the patterned plots and the limited vocabulary used to tell the stories guarantee a fluent reading experience for everyone. The book does not have to be read from beginning to end. Pick and choose the stories you are interested in reading. There is considerable language overlap among all 15 stories and especially between each of the three versions of the same story. Each of the 5 different fairy tales can serve as its own unit. I recommend following a 3-step process: 1) Picture Walk, 2) Collaborative Storytelling, 3) Read. The steps do not have to be taken in this order and you can skip and/or combine steps. By delaying the reading of the chapter, you will ensure a more confident, easier, more fluent, and more pleasurable reading experience.
