This novel gains great tremendous intimacy in its Jewish telling, returning biblical figures to their cultural roots on the eve of a Christian era. In this story, Jesus is the mystic called Yeshua.

Lazarus' experience of death has left him fragile and unconfident, and his newfound fame is a
