Mary Kay Leatherman grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She majored in English at Creighton University in Omaha and went on to teach English and creative writing to high school students for thirteen years. In 1996, Leatherman was chosen as one of the recipients of the Buffett Award for excellence in teaching. The award was personally presented to her by Warren Buffett.
Among her other published works are Surviving Your Friend's Divorce, and Sharing Your Faith with Your Child.
